I am a picker

Employment insertion is a reality at Glovo. Thanks to Glovo Access, an initiative led by the digital platform whose objective is to provide logistical support to NGOs and public institutions in the development of their social purpose, people from vulnerable groups can work as pickers in one of its Solidary Delivery Center (SDC).

When Dmytrii Snitko arrived in Spain from his native Ukraine, he was alone. He landed in Barcelona as a refugee, without friends, family, or a job and with no knowledge of the city or the language. His future was uncertain.

But he soon came into contact with Fundación Altius, a non-profit social organization that promotes the social and labor integration of vulnerable groups, and his luck changed. “Now I have a Spanish teacher, and a job,” says Dmytrii who works as a picker at a Glovo Solidarity Delivery Center (SDC). SDCs work side by side with different NGOs to collect food that would otherwise go to waste and distribute it to those in need. Pickers like Dmytrii are in charge of placing orders that are then distributed quickly and efficiently to the beneficiaries through Glovo Access.

Employment insertion at Glovo is a reality. “In 2022 we joined forces with [various] partner organizations to develop our DUAL Program, which consists of a training stage, followed by an implementation stage where we put into practice what has been learned through picking tasks in our Super Glovo warehouses,” explains Patricia Higueras, Lead of Glovo Access, an initiative led by Glovo aimed at providing logistical support to NGOs and public institutions so they can fulfil their social mission.

In order to successfully develop this program, Glovo Access has the support of REIR, an association of several NGOs working on projects related to the prevention of social and occupational exclusion. One of its support areas is the “education and training of young people, which includes the Dual training project that we are developing with Glovo,” says Manuel Izquierdo, Employment Insertion Projects Coordinator at Eines per Tothom, a non-profit association that works to meet the needs of groups at risk of social exclusion.

”For me it was a chance to try something new because I had never worked the way I’m working here. Sometimes I have to do paperwork and sometimes I have to check the dates of food or prepare orders,” says Dmytrii, happy with his job and his colleagues, whom he considers his friends. ”I hope I can stay here for some time to enjoy this experience.”
